Polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD) is a common hormonal disorder that affects women of reproductive age. In PCOD, the patients have multiple small cysts in their ovaries. An ovulation results in irregular menstruation, amenorrhea and ovulation related infertility.

When women have low-grade inflammation, it stimulates ovaries to produce androgen's, leading to PCOD. No one really knows what exactly causes PCOD, but it is likely to be the result of a number genetic and environmental factors.

If you are obese, weight loss plans is all you need. Eat more of weight loss foods and avoid sugary, salty, and fatty foods as much as possible. Increase your protein intake by making it at least 30% of your diet; make carbs less than 50% of your diet. Moderate exercise such as walking or swimming for at least 30 to 90 minutes every day go a long way in managing the condition. It will also help you lower or get rid of insulin resistance.

Menopause is the time in a woman's life when her menstrual cycle stops and she is no longer fertile (able to get pregnant). Usually occurs naturally, most often after the age of 45. Menopause happens because woman's ovaries stop producing hormones estrogen and progesterone.

Menopause and PCOS are growing health issue in urban women. Studies show that 8% of Indian women between the age 35 to 39 show signs of menopause and 4% of Indian women between the age 20 to 35. This is alarming since the normal age for menopause is after the age 45.

Survey shows nearly 20% to 25% increase of Indian urban women suffering from PCOS. PCOS is predominantly seen in the age group of 15 to 40 years.

Causes of Early menopause and increasing PCOD in urban women

• Increase in use of artificial reproductive techniques

• Poor nutrition

• Heavy smoking or drinking

• Genetic factor

There are many factors respectively to each of menopause and PCOS. But the above causes are main factors seen in urban women.

Preventive measures such as lifestyle adjustments, stress management, proper nutrition, meditation, yoga and therapy are to be involved in day to day life.

One should reach out to preventive health care service provider to reduce any future complications. Keeping track of your body metabolism will assist in preventing health problems.

Proper medication and therapy advised by doctors or preventive health care service provider are to be followed to avoid or reduce menopause and PCOS.
